The complete guide to protecting and packing home and office furniture

Furniture packing in the Eastern Province: the science of protection before transport

Packing isn't just random rolls of plastic; it's a carefully designed protective shield that guards the wood of your fine furniture, the upholstery of your majlis (sitting room), and your sensitive appliances against the Eastern Province's shifting humidity, highway heat and the knocks of handling in residential towers.

A philosophy of proactive protection

Why is packing the most important investment on your moving day?

Many people fall into the trap of relying on moving companies that offer low prices by skipping the packing stage or reducing it to a single wrap of plastic. The result, in most cases: deep scratches on dining tables, broken corners on wall-mounted TV cabinets, and fine sofa upholstery soiled by street dust and car exhaust.

At Al Bayt Al Hadith, we consider packing the first and last line of defense. Our packing system was designed around a close study of the environmental challenges of the Eastern Province: high coastal humidity in Khobar and Dammam, seasonal dust-laden winds (blowing sand), and extreme temperatures during the summer months.

The 5-layer protection system

Each layer in this system does a specific physical job, and the layers work together to prevent scratches, absorb shock, seal out the climate, and hold the inner structure steady.

01

Protective surface lining

PE Foam Wrap

A layer of non-woven fabric or soft 2 mm polyethylene foam placed directly on polished wood and mirrors. It prevents any surface rubbing that could mar the varnish or fade the colors.

Function: preventing micro-scratches
02

High-density bubble wrap

Heavy-Duty Bubble Wrap

Rolls of bubble wrap with firm, tightly sealed 10 mm bubbles. They act as a flexible air cushion that absorbs the sudden impacts caused by highway vibration or turns.

Function: absorbing shocks and impacts
03

Cardboard braces and corner protectors

Edge & Corner Protectors

Rigid corner protectors made of multi-layer reinforced cardboard (5 layers) are fitted to all table edges, cabinet corners and doors. They keep sharp edges from breaking as pieces pass through hallways.

Function: reinforcing fragile corners

Industrial blue stretch film

Blue Stretch Film

A high-tension stretch plastic, 23 microns thick, in dark blue. It compresses the layers beneath it and seals them tight, isolating the furniture completely from coastal humidity, sunlight and sand.

Function: climate sealing and holding strength
05

Moving blankets and securing straps

Blankets & Ratchet Straps

Inside the truck, pieces are covered with thick padded cotton blankets and cinched down with ratchet straps attached to the truck's rails to prevent any sliding during the drive.

Function: complete stability in transit
The standard across our fleet

Why do we insist on dark blue industrial stretch film?

Many customers ask us: what's the difference between ordinary clear plastic wrap and this blue plastic? Here are the scientific and practical reasons we rely on it exclusively in the Eastern Province:

Ultraviolet (UV) resistance

Clear plastic wrap concentrates the sun's heat like a magnifying glass, which can damage furniture finishes or heat up sofa upholstery. The dark blue color blocks direct sunlight during loading in the Eastern Province's heat.

Double the elastic tensile strength

Made from linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) polymers with interlocking bonds, which gives it high tear resistance even when stretched around sharp edges or metal protrusions.

A barrier against humidity and blowing sand

When wrapped in several overlapping layers, the film clings to itself and forms a nearly airtight skin that keeps sea humidity and its salts, and the fine grains of blowing sand, out of the pores of fabric and wood.

Complete privacy for families

In our Saudi society, families care about keeping household and bedroom belongings private. The opaque blue hides what's inside each piece as it leaves the house and goes onto the truck in front of neighbors and passersby.

Specialized packing protocols

How do we handle each type of furniture and belongings?

We don't use one method for every piece: a marble dining table calls for an entirely different approach from a TV screen or a china set.

Marble tables and stone surfaces

Marble is a heavy stone that is brittle under uneven pressure. We separate the marble top from its base, pad it with thick sheets of compressed foam, then wrap it in rigid cardboard sheets on both sides and carry it vertically so it doesn't break in the middle.

Note: it is always moved upright on its edge, never lying flat.

Sofa sets and fine majlis seating

The cushions and pillows are removed and packed in clean protective bags. The sofa frame is then wrapped in soft cotton blankets to protect fabric and leather from creasing, followed by a tight wrap of blue stretch film to protect it from any rubbing against elevator walls.

Extra protection for wooden legs with purpose-made round foam supports.

Mirrors, paintings and chandeliers

We tape a cross over the face of the glass to prevent cracks, then wrap the piece in a double layer of bubble wrap and place it in a dedicated cardboard box. Chandeliers have their crystals removed and packed between foam dividers.

Gaps are filled with foam peanuts so that nothing shifts in transit.

Kitchenware, china sets and crystal

Every piece and every glass is wrapped in soft, ink-free white packing paper. They go into cardboard boxes divided inside into cardboard cells, with a thick layer of bubble wrap at the bottom and top of the box.

Boxes are marked with bright red "Fragile - Glass" labels.

TV screens and tech devices

Special TV boxes for screens from 43 to 85 inches, fitted with foam corner blocks and side support bars that absorb any pressure on the sensitive display panel of curved and flat OLED screens.

Cables are disconnected and placed in numbered bags along with the TV stand.

Mattresses and bedding

Mattresses are the items most prone to absorbing odors and dust. We use sturdy sealed polyethylene bags with a tight zipper or sealing tape that cover the mattress from the moment it comes off the bed until it is set down in the new home.

Keeps the mattress sealed off from dust and dirt throughout the move.
Real-world field comparison

Our standard professional packing vs. rushed, haphazard packing

The difference between your furniture arriving intact, just as it was, and arriving with scratches and broken corners lies in the quality of the materials and how they are applied.

Rushed, haphazard packing

Common practices that damage furniture

  • Cheap, thin clear plastic film: it tears at the first rub against door edges or elevator walls.
  • Neglecting corner protectors: the corners of cabinets and wooden desks are left exposed, so they hit the floor as the piece is set down.
  • Sticking adhesive tape directly onto wood: it leaves a glue residue that spoils the gloss of the paint and the natural wood veneer.
  • Packing plates and cups without dividers: glass and china are piled in at random, so they are liable to break at the first bump in the road.
  • Not sealing mattresses: mattresses and bedding are exposed to dust, street dirt and truck odors.

The Al Bayt Al Hadith packing system

Approved engineering standards for every piece of furniture

  • Dark blue industrial stretch film (23 microns): exceptional tensile strength that keeps out moisture and sun and keeps the contents private.
  • Reinforced cardboard braces and corner protectors: rigid, shock-absorbing corners are fitted on all the vulnerable corners before wrapping.
  • An insulating foam layer before the tape: the adhesive tape never touches the wood of the furniture; it is fixed over the insulating wrapping layers instead.
  • Boxes with cardboard dividers for dishes and ornaments: each item is wrapped individually in soft paper, with cardboard dividers that fully absorb vibration.
  • Clean, tightly sealed mattress covers: thick polyethylene bags that are sealed tight to protect mattresses from any speck of dust or moisture.

Frequently asked questions about furniture packing and its materials

Find out more about the quality of the packing materials and how they are applied

Ordinary wrapping is limited to a layer of plastic film that keeps surface dust off. Multi-layer wrapping (the method we use) consists of a foam layer to protect corners and paint, a layer of shock-absorbing bubble wrap, reinforced cardboard for the front panels, and a tightly stretched wrap of industrial blue stretch film that keeps out humidity and prevents shaking.
